Edgar Wright has left Marvel’s Ant-Man.

Ant-ManIn rather shocking news apparently Edgar Wright has left Marvel’s “Ant-Man” as director. a joint statement from Marvel and Wright that claims the amicable decision stems from ‘differences in their vision of the film.’ Marvel also stated upon Wright’s departure “a new director will be announced shortly.” Marvel also added “[this] does not impact the release date of July 17, 2015” The news is a surprise because Wright had been developing this project since 2006. The comic book community will be shocked as Wright had been regularly promoting Ant-Man at San Diego Comic-Con. Wright even showed promising test footage at the 2012 convention. Wright will not be bringing the size-shifting character to the big screen. Marvel was hoping to establish a new franchise with Ant-Man being connected to the 'Guardians of the Galaxy’. In the comics Ant-Man is the alter-ego of biochemist Hank Pym, who uses subatomic particles to create a size-altering formula. When his experiments go awry, Pym realizes that not only can he shift his size; he can communicate with and control insects. Ant-man also a key player in assembling the original Avengers. Therefore that role will have a significant change in the films. It says on IMDB that Michael Douglas will be playing Hank Pym and that Paul Rudd will be playing  Scott Lang/Ant-Man.  Hopefully Marvel finds a new director who is just as passionate about this project. I really enjoyed what Wright had done with Scott Pilgrim.
